March 28th 2012 AIM, Lombardy Region and Institute for Navigli - Associazione Amici dei Navigli organized the conference "The reopening of the Navigli: feasibility conditions and growth opportunities for the city" at the Gaber Auditorium of Palazzo Pirelli in Milan.

The theme of the re-opening of the Navigli, after the outcome of the citizen Referendum, had great space in the urban debate. The consent expressed by the citizens of Milan to get back "the navigable river" has deserved a concrete and feasible answer, which can allow the reopening of a functional stretch of the internal Navigli, verifying the feasibility conditions.

The conference promoted by the Regional Council of Lombardy with AIM and the Institute for Navigli reported on the advanced recovery of the Locarno-Milan-Venice waterway and on the growth opportunities of the city, with the proposal to build a marina adjacent to the basin of Viarenna, in connection with the reborn Darsena and according to the navigation route Lago Maggiore-Po.

The conference was also an occasion for the presentation of a methodological essay edited by the Bocconi University for the economic evaluations of the reopening of the Navigli, starting from the estimates on the Darsena-Conca di Viarenna project.
