AIM is a no profit cultural association founded in 1987 on a project which have involved Milan's banks and companies to support the activities and projects elaborated inside the association.
Purpose of AIM is to be centre of ideation and promotion of initiatives who support Milan and its metropolitan area in its economic, social and cultural development.
AIM operates in two different ways: on one side the study and research of Milan's reality and her peculiarities and requirements, on the other side the realization of some solid projects in the cultural, social, artistic and territorial fields.
Hundreds of opportunities for debate and study about the city, its values, its possible future, conducted with institutional cooperations that have seen AIM alongside the Lombardy Region, Province and Municipality of Milan, but also of the Cariplo Foundation , Assolombarda, Chamber of Commerce, the most important trade associations, and especially the Milan universities. AIM has been supported in its activities by members expression of entrepreneurial Milanese, including Pirelli, RCS, Snam, Italcementi, Microsoft, Siemens, IBM and several banks; current members of AIM are: A2A, Credito Valtellinese Bank, 3M Foundation, Scenari Immobiliari and Intesa Sanpaolo Bank.
Among the projects of AIM we can remark the study for Biopolo Milan, a consortium for the promotion of the biotechnology industry; the International competition for the Garibaldi Repubblica area; the helpline service for elderly and handicapped; the initiative “MxM - Milan for Multimedia” with feasibility studies on innovative national scene; the development of the project for the first Italian media library, the mediateque of Santa Teresa; the series of exhibitions illustrative of artistic production of our city "90 Years Art in Milan" and even the creation and management of "Internet Saloon" that led to informatic literacy and Internet nearly 65,000 seniors in Milan and in seven other cities and then Italian "Conoscere Milano", guided tours to thousands of participants to discover the places of urban transformation, the ecological infrastructure of the "Green Rays", the cycling routes "LET-Landscape Expo Tour", "Habito", the research for the future of living, and study tours in major European cities competing with Milan and other Italian cities.
More than one hundred publications produced in two series "Quaderni AIM" and "Projects for the city" that trace the change of Milan, its innovative capabilities, the lines of development viable and the impact of Europe on the local and on metropolitan area, and among them "The changing Territory", "Experiences and landscapes of living", "Asia in Milan", "China in Milan", "Africa in Milan", "Photography and Photographers in Milan", "Graphics and design in Milan "," Fashion in Milan "," The green in Milan "," Parks and Rivers" and "Milano Buzz".
With 2016 AIM inaugurates the new headquarters in Via San Vincenzo 13, a place open to the city where to develop new research projects and promote exhibitions, meetings and debates on the metropolitan city.
Professor Luigi Guatri has been the first president of AIM (1987-1997) then, for the successives fifteen years, till 2012, the president has been the lawyer Pier Giuseppe Torriani which, in 2013, has became the honorary president of the association.
The current chairman is the engineer Carlo Berizzi.
